The 1887 £2 sovereign, also known as a Double Sovereign, was minted to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee
It was only the second circulating £2 sovereign ever produced by the Royal Mint, with the first minted in 1823.
The obverse features a new design of Queen Victoria known as the “Jubilee Head” created by sculptor Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm
The reverse depicts the classic St. George slaying the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci, used on British sovereigns since 1817
The coin is made from 22 carat gold
